theme party @ McDonald's for my friend's big 30 Bash! The birthday chick said it was a THEME PARTY, dress up as any of the characters from Ronald McDonald and Friends.... and indeed i did... as Birdie (Early Bird). yes yes.. that annoying and hopeless bimbolic fat pink bird that can't fly. only to find out that... most of her colleagues did not bother to play along.... *blech*

Nonetheless, my colleagues at work were just as excited as I was... they helped with the get-up! and it resulted rather well.. i won....

BEST DRESSED AWARD!!! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

i made the golden arches brooch! Here with Lay Sie as Grimace (the purple frumpy dude) I always wonder if Grimace and Tinky Winky from Teletubbies are related, or similar representation from different country.

my very very precious little find....

I chanced upon this on amazon one day.. and instantly, i bought it... at the moment... Price was not a problem.. and... indeed.. it was unbelievably affordable.... The condition of the book was also not important anymore.... it arrived to my friend's place in the states (where i had it shipped to), nicely packed. my friend opened it, just as i did eventually to find...

An aged book, a slightly torn spine, brown and stained pages and a penetrating smell of maturity.

Written by Romola Nijinsky, the wife of Vaslav Nijinsky. She wrote the biography of her late husband, Vaslav Nijinsky, the male classical ballet extraordinaire of Ballets Russes. He was probably the first male dancer to set the male dancer status on the performing stage, he was also the one who challenged the classical ballet vocabulary to new heights. He invented movements that caused a scandalous uproar in Paris Opera House in 1913's production of Le Sacre du Printemps.

This book is personal, written by the avid fan of his, the faithful caregiver in his final years and supporter throughout. Pictured here, the family of Nijinsky.

Published in 1934, this book braved the 2nd World War, across lands and seas, and it is now in my possession. :)

cost? i would say priceless...but it did came with a price, that was shocking to me...

it costs US$5.00, and US$3.00 for shipping. Barely US$10.00 in total. i do question and wonder the accuracy of this book, but it is the story of a man, written by his wife; it bound to have a slight amount of romanticized facts.

nevertheless... everytime I see this book, everytime I smell it's rustic age, I am thankful that 'one man's junk, is another man's treasure.'

my lunchbox for school!

this is just one of the example of an 爱心餐 (love meal), which i MADE it myself.. cooked and garnished... heehee... this little box contains, fried broccoli with white button mushrooms in thai oyster sauce, omelette with white onions, and japanese seasoning flavoured white rice. The 'hello kitty' spoon was a xmas gift in 2007 from one of my girlfriends... finally i took it out to be used...

it is always nice to have happie lunchboxes to cheer me up :) this is a Cath Kids lunchbox. it was for the Japanese market, hence the chopsticks.

yes yes... as i promised.. more about the books i owned... honestly i thought that this will be an excellent way of documenting which are books i have and i will not buy 'again'... i am such a history buff.. i have to say... gossips and scandals of the historian icons are always so interesting... hahahahaha

not to forget, i am also a fan of Death and Killing... they are just provoking to learn about these interesting minds.

and of course there are the lovie lovie ones... that i love.. :) i have a few others that were given to me by my girlfriends, but they are mainly in the boxes now...

i thought i should blog... i've been neglecting my blog and i feel that's rather heartless of me... anyway... i felt i HAD to blog... cos i have some much to share... yes yes.. the new books i have been... 'collecting' (erm... buying and spending money on... yeah yeah yeah... SHOPPING that's the word that i am trying to avoid)..
anyway... books are my weakness... i can't deny that... especially autobiography of individuals who... (for goodness' sake!) are dead! honestly, wh would ANYONE wanna read an autobiography of a person who is still alive, who could possibly alter what or how he or she wants the readers to perceive... true as well that it may also apply to someone, who is already dead, and the author could alter the facts and account... but... i just personally feel, there is so much more value in reading about a dead person than a person who is alive and kickin!
anyway... back to my list of books...
will start with the ones tat i bought from UK and Singapore... over the past year, and next post, i will share my new gem... yes yes... a gem indeed!!!!
so...
i got this 2 books from Royal Opera House Shop. which i readily spent 200pounds in the shop on books, program books, posters and dvds... it was so heavy lugging them around central london... got them during my very brief 3 days in London for a Dance education conference...
i am loving Jann Parry's A Different Drummer. wish i could see her one day to have the book autographed! it is an easy read, and a very humble insight to the genius mind of Kenneth Macmillan... I am halfway through...

Weird as I possibly am, i am intrigued with the scandals and gossips of historical figures... well... i am a dance history teacher, and i do have a thing for historical icons... and apart from studying these icons' involvement in history itself, i can't help it but to research on their social life. furthermore, i am an anatomy teacher too... good to know how the body evolved and blah blah blah.. enough said... i skimmed through bits of it... its really interesting on how Man perceive Man as a form of attraction magnet... and that.. it is considered a disgrace if Man do not surrender himself to vanity... and... there is a reason why the GYM is created, and it was purely for Man to 'beautify' themselves, and that they would have to do it... naked! hahahahaha so interesting! definitely learnt a lot there...

this is a fresh book... fresh because i just bought it about 2 hours ago... i started to read it and really like it... there were mention of Vaslav Nijinsky and Diaghilev (Both are big names of the Ballets Russes [1909-1929]). Well, let's face it.. i have an undying passion for Nijinsky, for his vision and his vanity and beauty.
apart from just that... the title speaks for itself... Igor Stravinsky and Coco Chanel. I understand that it is a novel, hence it may not be true, but, it is good to read the tale this author spins... it is rather lovely, i have to say, the description he paints in his words, does transport one to the glamourous 1910s-1920s!

Audrey Niffenegger had a new book in 2009. It will be my holiday read... which holiday, i have no idea.. but i will come to it... i bought it first, as there were some good deals at the book store...

i missed the film of Revolutionary Road. however i am always the fan of the book rather than the film. i never believe that film would do the book justice... honestly.... bought these books and will touch them soon...

this was one book that i wish i have, and i will only want it if it is autographed... and it must be fate! i had 2 friends holidaying in Melbourne in the recent December holidays. and i begged one of them to get this book.. and have it autographed. and he did!! Whoo Hoo!!! thank you thank you, and you know who you are!!!! Another girlfriend of mine, thought that i would like this book, and bought it for me for xmas, not knowing that i have made arrangement with my friend in Melbourne.. heehee.. and yes.. now i own two of them!!! and i ain't complaining!!!

Open House in School

This is my first school entry... why do i put it here??? hmmf... i don't know.. maybe cos i love my job too much to share it here... but there is still a part of me that wants to protect that integrity, and work ethnic part... anyway... this is just random... there is of cos much more interesting, wacky and 'happening' photos that should just keep to internal circulation... well.. then again... it is hard to say, one day i may just go mental and covert my personal blog to a job/SOTA glorification blog... *ponder for a bit....* maybe not for now.... can't really tell what the future says.. hahahahahha...
anyway...

Weddings weddings weddings weddings....i lost count the number of weddings and ROMs i have attended in the past year... my peers have decided to sign themselves to eternal partnership.... eternal endless bills... eternal fights.... eternal loss of privacy... eternal bliss (for some maybe...) eternal fear of adultery...
anyway.....i have my HATES and loves of weddings... and for sure... the 'opening door sabo act' is definitely one of my major hates... it is completely and absolutely demeaning and humiliating... i can go on and on whinging about it...

this blog is more or less... dead... well...its still resuscitating from... a very very long... very very.... extended.... stone-ness...
gosh oh gosh.. i've never been busier... i think... i mean for work... overseas student exchange trip... exams.. open house, markings... moving offices... dance showcases... choreographies... (erm.. we are talking about 6 items yah!!!) and i am not even half done with most of them... and my birthday falls in the midst of all these madness... and the only comforting thing is... EATING!!! i know... its not healthy.. but... i am eating for a reason.. hahahha for a few actually... i am eating for staying alive and eating to be happy, eating to relieve stress and eating to celebrate my birthday (over a few days of cos!)... eating with loved ones to have a merry good time!!! YAAAYYY...

had a trip with some colleagues to bangkok... was my first time to tat part of the world... but i had a good time.. the best part of the trip was... contacting a very very very old friend and meeting him and his heavily pregnant wife!

Cos by doing this doesnt mean he will not stray, it doesnt mean there wont be divorce, it doesnt mean its HAPPILY EVER AFTER!!! Its just ABSOLUTE stupidity on one side, and humiliation on the other!!!

22. I think wedding portfolio photos (those taken in a studio) is a bloody waste of money and time!!! cos once u are married... the album goes into the cupboard, collecting dust, feeding to termites and end up degenerating!!! I feel its very sad that couples want to feel like they are CELEBRITY by having their photoshoot, and posing as loving and adorable lovers... OH PLEASE!!! spare me!!!! it's so fake!!!!

23. i believe 6 in every 10 married couples will end up in divorce. of the remaining 4, 3 will end up as loveless marriage and kept together because of the kids, and 1 will hopefully be of true love...

24. i want to go through the entire pregnancy process even if i don't get married. i found a sperm donor already anyway.

25. i think the name LUCIFER is just a name and it has nothing to do with the devil as many perceive. the devil could have been call AH BENG or AH YO YO!

And i thought the movie 'Atonement' was heartbreaking... ah.... till i watched THE READER.... yes... The very film that won Kate Winslet the Golden Globe Award... for Supporting Actress... I wouldn't say she deserve the award for Supporting Actress... i feel... She RIGHTFULLY deserve the Best Actress award for this film.. I mean.. She was in the film from the beginning to end.. she acted the aged Hannah Schmitz, as well as the middle age Hannah Schmitz. The male character opposite her was shared by the young David Kross and the reputable Ralph Fiennes...

The plot is straightforward, and it could happen to anyone... of that period... but the relationship of the young Michael Berg (played by David Kross) and Hannah Schmitz (Kate Winslet), was intense and mixed at times... She was the lover, the vulnerable child and also at times the maternal partner in the relationship. She uncovered many facets of her character in the 123 mins film. As strong as she is on the front, the film also captures her vulnerability and her childlikeness. A side that Micheal Berg fell helplessly in love with. I believe the initial attraction between the two characters was lust... but her love for him grew when she was in prison and she received the story-telling cassettes from Micheal Berg (she was convicted for a war-time crime). The mature Michael Berg (Ralph Fiennes) visited her just one week before she was going to be released from prison. He has not seen her for almost 30 years; when she saw him, she initiated and reached out her hand for his. he hesitated a little and he placed his hand over hers. Within moments, he retreated, and that was absolutely heart wrenching.

I love the sets too.. i mean what not to love? its EUROPE!!! Germany in the 1950s to 60s. The architecture, the details on the bannisters, the ceilings, the furnitures, the furnace by the bathtub (which reminded me of the bathroom scene in The Dreamers), the fabrics used as curtains, oh oh.. i simply love the young Michael Berg's attire (every part of it... literally EVERY PART of it), and his bed linens (its almost like a Laura Ashley pinup)... and so many things to love about it... oh... another thing... i fell instantly in love with the cinematography... the director Stephen Daldry, who also directed one of my favourite film, The Hours, and Billy Elliot, clearly showed his trademark in details and the use of very subtle idiosyncrasies to amplify the mood and dialogue...

Some may say the duration of the movie is too long, but i feel.. there were details that could not be left out... the intensity of the affair between Michael Berg and Hannah Schmitz had so much details, as it helped to answers her latter decisions and her way of dealing with issues that she was facing. i just wish i can understand german and i would read the original german text!
I would definitely suggest anyone who is in the legal age to watch this beautiful film... I would definitely love to watch it again... the ever-so-yummy Ralph Fiennes and of cos the delectable Kate Winslet is just enough to have me indulge in the film once again... am looking forward to Kate and old partner in crime, Leonardo Dicaprio's Revolutionary Road... by the way, she is a very down to earth, and humble beauty in person... She was my client when i was working in a boutique in London... heehee... she is absolutely an angel in every way! hahahaha...

hmmmf 2008 has been a year of unfortunate electronic events... hmmf... first my iphone was left in the UK for a couple of months... then just before September, my hard disk of my MacBook crashed... terribly unexpectantly... all my school Art Festival events archives were all documented and lost as my hard disk just crashed on me... It was ever so upsetting that all those pictures, and videos of the students' rehearsals, etc were all gone with the other data.... hmmmf... then in September... my digital camera went cranky... it's button came springing out as i hit the 'to snap' button, while i was in the midst of snapping a picture. anyhow... that was hardware problem... i had it fixed... paid $60 for a little button, a spring and some strong glue to get them attached together... Just as i thought everything was smooth sailing... my macbook hard disk CRASHED on me AGAIN!!!!!!! in less than 3 months!!!! ARGH!!!!!! From now on.... i detest my work macbook... for it has failed me not once but twice in less than 3 months... worse of all... all my pictures in iPHOTO was also GONE!!!! it was utterly DEVASTATING!!!!! Just as i was still mourning over the loss of my pictures and data in my 2nd crashed experience... my digital camera slipped out of my hands and hit the floor whilst in it's case... and broke it's screen.... yes yes... my digital camera took a dive and committed suicide... well not exactly, as it didnt quite kill itself COMPLETELY... i would say.. its just handicapped. hmmmph...
well... i did have some backups... but nothing compares to re-installing every single file ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!
i wish and i pray that may 2009 be a year of happy electronic experience... no suicidal thoughts on any of my techno stuff... PLEASE!!!!!!

yes yes... it's coming to 6 months and i have not updated what happened during my Summer London trip 2008... (i miss london very much!!!!)
My first meal when i touched down, Lunch with Tsumugi at Strada!!!! i had my usual... seafood linguine, and we had tiramisu to share...

The following evening... i had dinner with saffie... we had pancakes on King's Road... We ordered a savory and a sweet, heehee... the sweet was a traditional Sugar and Lemon Pancakes.... We finished EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!! YUMMILICIOUS!!!!

Met up with Elaine for dinner at Bryon along with Saff and Nat...

Oh My Goodness!!!!!! SINCE when has burger tasted so FABULOUS!!!! I ordered a generous portion of their house classic hamburger with portobello mushroom!!!! AHHHH!!!! you have no idea how delicious and juicy it tastes till u sink your teeth in it!!!!
Elaine decided to go white meat... and had a chicken sandwich :) it was delicious too!!! Bryon's the place to eat!!!! highly recommend!!! and the price is affordable too!!!
Then there was shopping in Bicester village... and i had to confess... i missed Carluccio's!!! I have to have the lasagna... but.. sigh... it didnt taste as good as i anticipated though :(

Met up with one of my colleagues from SOTA, Wang Jiunn, who happened to be in London too. And we decided to go turkish... heehee.... no belly dancers unfortunately... we went to the famous Effes II. This place has a special sentimental attachment to this place.... it was the place that my first few friends that i made in london (who are turks), introduced their cuisine to me... and i remembered i was hobbling out and about london on my crutches and my turkish flatmate (whom i grew very close too whilst living in YWCA) and we bought kebabs as our takeaway lunch. we sat on a bench and enjoying the huge serving... The uncle at the takeaway counter was very generous.. he gave us extra meat and pitas too.. he probably think we are very poor students... oh.. well... we were... hahahahahaha... This was also the place Paul brought me out for my birthday dinner.... heehee.. i remembered vividly that evening, he refused to tell me where we were heading... and we got off the bus at Green Park, and I looked at him astonished... and said, "ARE WE GOING TO THE RITZ???!!! ARE YOU BRINGING ME TO THE RITZ???!!!" He laughed hysterically... he said he can't believe that came out of me.. hahahahha anyway... it was a private joke... the thought of it as i write now.... makes me laugh... sigh... i was so... gullible... anyway... back to this recent trip... so.. i had dinner at Effes II. Well.. i can't really remember what i had... i think i had lamb... no.. chicken... no ... lamb... or maybe... chicken.. alas.. i can't remember... here's the dine in pictures....

its interesting... 2007 and 2008 seems to be the year for divorces and breakups... more separations than getting together... well for those that are getting married.. or going to get married or even foolish enough to plan to get married... please... THINK IT OVER.. NOT ONCE, NOT TWICE BUT THINK IT OVER AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!!!!

and for those (in my honest opinion), who get married because they want to get a STUPID HDB Flat through the government... are... simply S T O O P I D and digging their own graves of emotional and mental stress.

Oh my gosh!!! Remember Niffenegger's novel: The Time Traveler's Wife?
Well.. the movie is made and the cast of "The Time Traveller's Wife" is out...do you know who is acting as Henry DeTamble??? The man who could time travel... the man who is supposed to look frail, the book lover man who is insanely in love with his Claire Abshire?
*HUGE SIGH!!!!* Its the beefy Eric Bana opposite the young Rachel McAdams.... Oh dear oh dear.... Why oh why... is the beefcake acting as Henry??? In the first place... I don't understand what's the problem with those directors and casting people.. Haizz... Don't get me wrong... I have absolutely nothing against Eric Bana, I just feel that the roles that he has done are wrongly cast on him... Prior to this role, he was cast as Henry IV... Com'on.... Henry IV? The overweight and mighty brute? Eric looked far too 'fit' and 'hot' for a man like Henry IV (well.. check you European History then!!!) I mean.. acting skills a side.. i am in no position to critic or judge... but aesthetic? what happened??? no one bother to consider the suitability of the appearance of the roles anymore???

where should i start.... let's start from the beginning of my london trip... my exhausting flight to bangkok, then to london..... firstly i had to say how much i love airplane food... i love the way they packed everything in small trays and they try so hard to make it looked yummy and interesting... and for the taste... i love it... its so 'packed' and compressed and 'artificially tried' to a certain extent.
Here's my first Thai Airways meal: Chicken Noodles... the noodles were quite yummie...
My Lunch: Salmon and Spinach Fettucine - Good Effort!!! pasta was good...
Breakfast before i touch down in Heathrow, London: Mushroom and Cheese Omelete with chicken sausages... I thought the yogurt from Meiji was rather cute...
Whilst returning from London.. this is not too bad.. Thai sauce Chicken with rice....The strawberry tart was rather attractive looking...
After that i had breakfast again.. which was similar to what I had before... and then for the final meal, before i touch down at Singapore... i had Spicy Prawns with Rice... it was ok... but i had to say... these food did 'configure' my bowels system...
i could not resist when i saw this article in the Thai Airways onboard magazine Sawadee... CHECK IT OUT:

i like to make my friends happie :) yes.. we only lived once, and wat's more satisfying and happier than making the people we loved smile???
it was an entire day of shopping... heehee...
i began my expenditure at Raffles City... i bought pink roses for some of my students who were doing a school show performance at Victoria, and a purple rose for Mei Sing (their ballet teacher) and then i thought... maybe Mei sing will probably feel a little peckish when the girls are dancing... so i bought her a bag of jelly beans to peck on..heehee.... i bought them cards to give them my well wishes for an awesome show :)
next off, i had to scout around for a good gift to get for my ballet teacher who was having her birthday the following day... i thought about getting a cake and flowers...but i thought...hmmf probably not... so i pop into Crabtree and Evelyn and grabbed her some nice clotted cream cookies and teas, nicely wrapped in a pastel carrier...and a card from Prints... whilst at Prints, i bought 2 boxes (a lime green and a purple) for both Mei Sing and I to put barang barang....
then off i went to give these pressies to my lovely people... then after Victoria Theatre... i pop by Fullerton to get cheesecakes for a friend, but.. guess what, their pastry house has closed down... so i thought.. hmmph perhaps One Fullerton might have some good stuff in the restaurant.... oh mind... i was wrong... perspiring like nobody's business, i walked over to discover that the restaurants that used to be by the river bank were no longer there, and the only decent place is, STARBUCKS..... i was on the verge of walking all the way to Marina Mandarin to try for cheesecake... but... looking at the time... i guessed rather not... and at that point... i think i am probably getting quite a tan from walking in the sun...
so i pop into Starbucks for a refreshing Chocolate Cream Chip with a shot of Hazelnut (de-li-cious!) and 2 slices of cheesecakes.... yums yums... i can't wait... bearing in mind.. i have not eating anything apart from tiny portion of beehoon from my mum's.
off i went to Thomson plaza to give my ballet teacher her birthday present... but alas... to find out that her dance school is shut... and i was in a complete lost... keeping my fingers crossed, i rang her to see if there was any other way to hand her, her presents.... (she was rehearsing for NDP). she suggested that i drop the present off at her place... phew... so off i embarked into the north... i got there, still perspiring.. hahhaha... and rang her door, but no one was there, her maid was out and my teacher's mummy was in there but i think she was probably locked in...oh dear... so i hanged her present over the gate.. and off i went to my next gift-giving place... gave my friend the cheesecakes which did make my friend pleased and smiley! it made me smiley too!!!
and then to my final place...Raffles city again to meet Elaine...it was a saturday... i was all keen to catch up on my James McAvoy fever at the cinemas with 'Wanted' and 'Penelope', but all my kakis were not free, and elaine who was killing time before she meet up with her bf, suggests that we go walk walk... just as I was waiting for her, i bought myself a ring from Swatch, which i did set my eyes on them for ages... the ring was from their pilot collection, when they first had jewellery. it looked like and enlarged, tripled, chor-lored version of my mimioui. I looked around topshop and other apparel stores, tried some clothes on but non catches my fancy much... but i did fancy some chunky male watches in Agnes B for meself... the female ones were far too dainty and minute for a chor-lor me... but the price was... ahem ahem... overpriced for an Agnes B.
anyway... met up with elaine... and then we go walk walk...showed her the watches whilst she set her eyes on a necklace (that had a whistle, and a pendant). she said she really really love it, but dun wanna burn a hole in her pocket... i did thought about getting it for her for her upcoming birthday with the other sistas...but... i thought about it.. i rarely goes into town..and since i was there i should just buy it... so i had a great opportunity when we pop to the loo, and she left first to go walk walk around, and i sneaked into Agnes B, and purchased the necklace... the shop staff were hilarious.. they recognised me from my previous visits and i told them i needed to buy that to surprise my friend, they were very cooperative, they hid me in the corner of their counter, and quickly wrapped the present up, and i made haste in writing her a note to wish her happy birthday in advance and hope this surprise will make her smile! and it did... that warms my heart, and it was the best feeling everyone can have...
joyfully, we made our way to Shokudo for unravelling the surprise and to wait for her man, and of cos.. FOOD!!!! the one thing i was waiting for!!!! ahhahaha...

Walked through National Museum of Singapore one evening about 9ish, 10, after an evening of Giselle in the Park by Singapore Dance Theatre. It was my first visit to the museum since it's opening in 2006 (I have not been in Singapore for a while..) Some of my colleagues and I were cutting through the museum to get to the subway station... and WOW... i was shuttering away like a little girl in wonderland...

singapore has a lil' island within singapore... yes yes.. it is a man-made island, and oasis for the rich and posh (some say atas).
it was a public holiday and some of us needed a getaway well sort of... and we decided to go for brunch at this great looking place in the scorching heat.
PRiVé @ Keppel Marina... a little island tat reminded me of a scene of Newport Beach from The OC, or something like Miami... with boats/yacht awaiting, tanning in the sun...

yes yes... ping is back from the land of SOUTHPARK and the land of guns and killings.. heehee.. Canada... she was studying in Vancouver and still is a student.. heehee... she prettier and prettier ah.... heehee... she was my FIRST friend in secondary school. and i am so pleased to see how beautiful she has blossomed! she n i used to be very very chor-lor (tomboyish) in school... she was very very sporty but despite her chor-lor-ness she had a fleet of suitors!!!

it's my burpday... hmmmf.... i was dreading this day at first, to be honest. my first birthday 'back' in singapore, working... at 7:30am onwards... with a long day ahead of a staff interaction sports day, classes and showing of my students' work to the rest of my colleagues... i don't expect much... especially it's singlehood now.. have a little less presents than before, and less of someone to share the joy with... hmmmf... just the eve of my birthday, i was just thinking... haizzz... 2 years ago, i was celebrating my birthday in disneyland paris and in beautiful paris.... and just last year.. i had a wonderful time alone in london, watching Royal Ballet company class with all my 'wish-list' of fave dancers dancing it raw before my eyes, followed by a lovely lunch with nat, and a 'my' time at the Tate when i went crazy with postcards shopping... oh... i terribly miss that... being alone in a foreign land... hmmmf... weird huh...
prior to the 'real' day, i had steamboat dinner with my friend followed by a slice of cheesecake we shared... its was enjoyable and pleasant when one is in great company...
well... i was in for a surprise... a very very unexpected surprise....
i was pre-arranged to have dinner at meising's (my work buddie), where she will prepare dinner, and the other company will be weiwei (my other work buddie who has adopted me as her daughter, she ain't that old actually!). hence all i was prepared was a quiet girls-in night, dinner in meising's cosy haven... which i thought would be lovely, just at the thought of it...
the day started... i didn't not 'dress up' on 'my' day, as i just thought of wearing something comfy for a good laze at her place... i pop to school at 7:30am, to open the dance studios for the kids' chinese dance class... and just before their lesson begin... students judith and jessica sheepishly skipped into our workout studio, Fred and placed something on my table and sprint off.. i beckoned them back... and they wished me happy birthday... and i asked them what did they give... and oh my gosh... ain't i'm touched???
judith made and gave me french toasts, in all shapes and sizes, heart shaped, clover leaf, circle, etc... she said she woke up at 5am to prepare them... i was speechless... Jessica gave me a little card, with elmo and a little banana sticker..heehee... terribly cute... hahahahha...
soon i was off to playing sports with my colleagues, arranged by the school... i thought i was a good sport, running around on my twinkle toes on slippery floor... after the game of T-ball (aka a baseball lookalike to me), i returned to the conditioning studio to get changed and ready for assembly and school... just as i was coming out of the studio, i was stopped by the two sweet indian girls, iswarya and rupa. i was in for my first surprise... they bought me a cake!!! they are terribly sweet.. instead of the usual 'happy birthday' words on the cake they put 'WE LOVE U!' instead... AWWWWW.
had to put the cake away and dash for assembly... another great news i had... heehee.. my work buddie got promoted!!!! HOORAY HOORAY HOORAY!!!! meising is promoted to subject head!!!! I am terribly pleased for her.. she rightfully deserved it!!! YAAAYYYY!!! this news is happier than my birthday itself.. ahahhaha... and she gave me my little birthday present.... a pricey one... ooops!!! i like them very very much!

Judith came along and gave me my part II present.. hahahaha a book... the title: SHE WOKE UP MARRIED... i was like.. er..... hmmmf...
Then.. we had a showcase for the teaching and office faculty... everything went rather smoothly.. till about the end of the showcase.. i was cornered and commanded to sit on the high stool to watch a mini latin showcase by the Year 1s... it was stunning... they made it up themselves for me... AWWWWW i was laughing and probably almost tearing too... then the girls from Year 2 came in with an AWFULLY CHOCOLATE cake which Wenyang bought! and a bouquet of flowers from my friend. AWWWW... i was speechless and terribly happy!!!! at that moment i feel very very loved!!!! heehee... i still do of cos!!!

Dinner was delicious and the party at her place was wonderfully decorated... Mei Sing made all these happened!!!! heehee.. i feel terribly spoilt!!!! MY VERY FIRST SURPRISED PARTEE!!! heehee...

MY REVIEW IS PUBLISHED AGAIN!!!! HAHAHAHAH... MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! it has been almost 8 months since i wrote a review... yes yes... it has been insanely busy!!! as you can tell from my constant disappearance from my own blog... well, i had to confess that i did had notes prepared to review for 2 productions but... the moment i managed to squeeze time out to write a few lines, it was 3 months later and the production has long been forgotten... hmmmf... so for this recent one... i was in one of those moments, where i had those sudden burst of brain juice and inspiration and went on rattling on and on about the production...

about time.... for an update

i am still alive... kickin... and alive.... heehee....
there are so many things to update.. but life back in singapore has been anything more than HECTIC!!!!! all i wish for... is MORE TIME in a day!!! (oh well.. dun we all wish for that? well.. unless u are a convict, or a prisoner serving term.. i guess)
ok... let's start with something more recent... and significant and then we'll 'hopefully' move on to something that are less recent.. but still significant...
my performance.... well.. i personally consider that my swansong, as a matter of fact... but i guess.. some of my peers thinks its too early for me... well... i dunno, to be honest... we'll see...
i did a performance for one of my ballet teacher, Ms McCully. The performance was called 'Circle of Life', and it was for charity (National Cancer Research Funds). it was all for good cause.
i was given the Balanchine's Sylvia Pas De Deux to perform with Chris (my ballet friend). Chris did it 2 years back with another girl, but with a different choreography... and i am still at 'virgin' stage... so... it was about 2.5 months of rehearsals... the choreography wasnt too difficult, some partnering parts were challenging, especially for 2 untrained amatuers... but i absolutely enjoyed the rehearsals process... lots of discovering and experimenting.... anyway.. let's fast forward to the real deal!
well.. let's start with the full dress rehearsal...These are the rehearsals pictures...

throughout all my rehearsals, i was wearing the peachie costume for rehearsals... been practicing in it for 2 weeks or so... but there were some areas in the pas de deux tat was quite tricky to tackle, partly due to our lack of experience in pas de deux...
anyway... jus 1 week before opening night (19th dec) my teacher said to me that 2 examiners and the director of washington ballet will be there on opening night, and so will be the principal of the school i will be working for.. i was like "GREAT!!!!! LET"S BUILD ON THE PRESSURE YA!"
then.... just barely 4 hours before the show begin on the OPENING night, my teacher said to me, hey celine, try on the black costume (my previous costume which i performed Odile). i was like.. erm.. tat was 6 years ago, and i was tiny then... oh well... i pop it on.. and it was quite fine...
so my partner and i just did a run through of the piece before the show, we just practiced the pirouettes ensuring tat the handling is ok... we were saving of full runthrough, because i had 2 bad bruises on my toes from the pointe work...
and so... OPENING NIGHT!!!!!! i was extremely nervous.. i was shaking before getting on stage... cos i knew who was in the audience and the pressure was really killing me.... i told my partner.... u have to calm me down, if i get too anxious during the pas de deux... i was so nervous, u have no idea... it was almost as bad as knowing royal ballet dancers in the audience, etc...
anyway... off we went on stage for our gig....
there were a few lifts in the pas de deux... the first lift was fine.. and then when it got to the 3rd one... *SPLIT* my costumes started to give way.... one of the attachment fell out... i was smiling to the audience and under my breath i went "SHIT!" then the costume started to split more (it was fabric-tearing sound) i was like... 'Stay calm celine... just be cool'. my partner was like: "OOPS!" and we managed to hold it through till the very very end....
and to me... at that point... apart from the costume malfunction, it was the best performance i had!!!!!!!! i was quite pleased with myself... i feel.. on my part, i tackled the tricky parts alright, and i think i did fine, a pat on the back... however... apart from the costume, and a part where my partner suddenly had a mental blank, but got back into the game quick enough (thankfully!!!!)

then the following night, which was the last night... well... let's say i didnt do it as good as the first night. i was annoyed with myself... but some of the people who were watching feedbacked to me that 2nd night was better, but i felt 'NO WAY!'
oh well... i believed if i hadn't had the bruises on my toes, i would have executed better work...
right.. so there u go... this is one of the most detailed report...

i don't even know where to begin how i feel.... it was a combination of happiness and bitterness stirred up together. there were lots and lots of happy times meeting up with friends, and hanging out with Saffy and Nat, however, time passes ever so fast when one is happy.... and parting is never easy...

i have a HUGE weakness when it comes to bookstore... i could stay for hours and hours and hours... deciding which book is worth reading, and which should not be bothered... and sometimes i will just take a mental note which books are on my WISH LIST.. and which can i physically get... and they usually come up to a long long list...
the other day just waiting for my train, i headed into a mini bookstore, and bought 2 books...and once, i just pop my head into a 2nd Hand bookstore, and bag myself 3 hardcover dance books, and in another 2nd hand bookstore i laid my hands on this discontinued publication of one of my favourite choreographer, Kenneth MacMillan. I was absoutely thrilled!!!! then... just last friday, i went into WHSmith, and there was a promotion - 3 for 2. And how could i resist? i had a few books on my list, and I had to make such a tough decision...
finally i am proud to claim ownership of the last Harry Potter book, yes yes, i know i am LATE.. but i do not care.
there have been so many reviews of the film, and i couldn't find time to catch the film, i shall make do with the book. furthermore, i am intrigued with Ian McEwan.
Linking to the previous title, I guess i have to say, sometimes i picked books according to the state of my mood... and during these period, i was in a 'hopeless romantic'; need a 'sobbing' read... and picked this gem up...

sob sob.... its time to say tata... ciao.. adios... au revoir... to my multinationl black label family!!!! hmmmf hmmf.... There were moments of angst and frustrations, but the countless moments of laughters will be the most vivid... here are some of the most hilarious and fun people around, that kept me laughing and wrinkle-free for the last 4 years!!! (might add on when i dig out more pictures)

At the end of the day, as I was last getting out of the shop, the rest of the gang were standing outside Giorgio Armani, cheering on, clapping and whistling with digital cameras and camera phones in their hands on standby. I looked at Tadius, the secrurity guard, and we both just thought, nothing alarming, its just a typical behavior of people from Giorgio. The gang was cheering so loudly, that I can hardly hear myself when Tadius was checking my bags, etc....It reached a point of utter embarassment when cars were stopping to see the commotion the gang was making, and people from the buses were all checking out wat was the big deal! As u can see from the window reflection...
When I was finally out of the shop, they cheered even louder, thinking that i was some sort of big shot celebrity!!!! hahahaha... a few people walked past and stopped and asked who was I, and Anna said at the top of her voice, "She is the most famous ballerina from Singapore!" OH MY GOSH!!! i didn't know where to hide!!! One japanese tourist, walked past and stopped to take a picture of me, smiled gleefully and continued on.... I was speechless... hahahhaha
That was one of the memorable exit i ever had from London... hahahaha

THE LAWYER, BATEMAN AND THE BALLERINA!
my 2 best male mates in London.. have no idea how would i survive without these two dudes...heehee... 3 of us come from completely different background... but shared various common interests and always have a good laugh together...
Paul, the lawyer, is the BRAINS! and the WORD man and DONNIE DARKO/JAKE/BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN... he is like the Seth Cohen of the O.C. nerdy, geeky but with an absolutely witty humour.... he introduced: PURE OPPULENCE
Christian (english and german mix), and he lived in everywhere.... a fantastic snowboarder too, the BATEMAN! (bateman from American Psycho, cos Christian was obsessed with the film and Christian Bale), the Interior Architectural Designer. A wonderful impersonator and linguist. this guy has a wicked black sense of humor. oh.. and he used to have beautiful golden locks, but he is now jus gold velvet.... and it felt so wonderfully soft!!!
here we are... after a brief but meaningful journey of friendship, its time to say... 'not goodbye' but 'LATERS'! dinner at Strada, with The Lawyer and Bateman. Ahh... i am gonna miss these guys... will miss our long walks along the river, our boat ride along river thames... our galleries visit, our carrot cake discovery, the 'ice lady', our velvet/patent/mombasa/brock adventure.. heehee... just to name a few!

HMMMMMFFFF...... *sigh* where to begin..... 2 weeks in singapore has never been so tough... work for the school (which i will be working soon), has been quite a scary commitment altogether to begin with... and this trip back home, i went back with a pair of empty hands of emotional baggage... and 2 weeks later, i returned with excess baggage of overflowing emotional baggage... how it begin??? i have no idea... it jus hit me like a catastrophe. absolutely sudden and unexpected...
tat aside.... i managed to have good times with my loved ones....

THE HOLY BIBLE... & THE WORKING GIRL...

on my way to heathrow today... on the picadilly line, someone left a book on the seat that i was sitting on, the title was: CONFESSIONS OF A WORKING GIRL. i picked it up and curiously started reading the first few pages... it was interesting, and it helped to kill time as the tube passes a dozen more stops towards Heathrow Airport.
when i got to the airport, i was very early for my flight, but i thought, i can't be bothered to wait in those neverending queue during the peak hour... once i got into the custom... i had no intention to buy anything apart from my dinner...
i got myself a good sandwich and soup and sat at EAT to enjoy them.. whilst reading on my new 'found' book.
then a man walked towards me, and took the seat beside me... and he too brought out his sandwich and soup. soon after, he took out his book... i turned to look and guess what he was reading???? THE HOLY BIBLE.
i thought it was so ironic.... one's reading the words of God, while the other reading a book about lust, adultery, etc.... it would have been quite funnie, if someone who saw the 2 books balancing on the table, hiding the reader's face, who had it immersed in the soup/sandwich and book...

i feel happy and sad :)(: =()=

OH YES I DO.....
i am terribly pleased... because.... i spend merely £32.00 for 3 shows of Bolshoi Ballet (La Bayadere, Spartacus and Don Quixote)!!!! I know.. BEAT TAT!!!! it's fab!!! and after burning the midnite oil to write one of the reviews.... it got published and i am just so happy... i am glad that on my 'page' i have some of the top notch international dance companies on my portfolio, and they consists of a mixture of modern and classical dance companies... heehee... big names such as Bolshoi, Royal Ballet, Paris Opera Ballet, Dutch National Ballet, etc... WOOHOO!!!!
however the depressing thing is.. i have to abandon this and pack up my bags and head back home... hmmmmmf..... what s there to write in singapore???? nuthing much really... being here in london... i get to watch ballets at an average of 3 times a week... and in spore.. hahahhahaa... i probably count myself lucky if i get to watch ballet once in 3 months...

yes yes.. i know it has been FOREVER since i write or posted anything....
firstly.. i was away in Paris... which has been lovely, with saffie and nat... but i won't post any Paris picture till i got the green light... a good thing is.. i went to watch the Paris Opera Ballet, which was kinda a by-chance thing.... and they were doing La Fille Mal Gardee, and guess what? Next up... there is Steven McRae! where should i start? i saw his Prix de Lausanne clips, and was utterly impressed! well, i had to... what did you expect? his solo was so incredible that the entire audience and even the judges gave him a standing ovation!!!! 4 years later, he returned to the Prix stage to perform a piece by Wayne McGregor (one of my fave choreographer) and presented this awesome-ly cool solo, check it out! I DARE YOU!!!!

It's Princess Margaret Day at Francis Holland Girls' School!!! One of the big big granduer event of the academic year at the school....
Shortlisted talented dance students from the various levels are selected to display some dances (in groups and some solos) and they will be judged and awarded by prestigious ballet/dance figures of the century. The Guest of Honour for this year's event is Lady MacMillan!!!!! Personally, I was extremely excited, nervous... absolutely butterflies in my tummy... can you imagine? The wife of one of the greatest choreographer/dancemaker ever, Sir Kenneth MacMillan.... AAAHHHHH.....
Right, back to the event, dance students from vocational schools such as Royal Ballet and English National Ballet would also perform solos and pas de deux. Then shortly after the judges will give out the prizes to the young students....
As this is my first and last Princess Margaret Day at FHS, some of the girls (my students), who were aware that it will be soon that I am gone.. to tropical singapore for good... they got me some flowers and cards, and i was utterly touched... and holding back my tears....
These girls are great fun to have..... gonna miss them terribly much.... *sob sob*

After the long long day, and bagging 2 bouquets (I had 4, but I had to give 2 away, even before I brought them with me), I had to give the big bouquet, from Hiba and frens to Nat. I do not have any vase big enough in my flat to store these beautiful flowers.... These are the two bouquets I brought home, one from Hiba and friends and the smaller one which saffie is holding is from Chance. Hahahaha... Saffie demonstrating how strong she is, managing both bouquets all by herself... Awwwww

DARCEY BUSSELL FAREWELL

Attended Darcey Bussell's Farewell performance both at Sadlers Wells and The Royal Opera House...
At Sadlers Wells, I only managed the curtain call of Winter Dreams...she danced the role of Misha, which was created on her by the late genius, Sir Kenneth MacMillan. Dancing alongside her were, Tamara Rojo, Nicola Tanah, Jonathan Cope, Roberto Bolle, Edward Watson, Belinda Hatley, Michael Nunn, Wiliam Trevitt, etc... Her final Farewell pas de deux with Roberto Bolle was the highlight of the evening... its a feeling responded from their fiery and emotional performance that I can't find the exact words to describe...
At the Royal Opera House, there was also Belinda Hatley's farewell... here she is performing in Symphonic Variation. Only managed curtain call shots though...

And last but definitely not the least... Darcey's touching farewell appearance as she performed Song of the Earth... The atmosphere was unbelievable... the entire opera house was giving standing ovation, some sobbing some cheering and some applauding... and a few snapping pictures... its an experience i will never forget...she truly deserved what she has.... she will be deeply missed... by her nation and the world...

Visited the lil' angel when she returned from Singapore.. Oh... how much she has grown...
still cheekie as ever.... Here are some pictures when we were fooling around on her 2nd day in London... please do take her jetlag into consideration...
and here she was attempting to create a clown... initially her clown was not so smiley, it was just one wooden block on the mouth.. I asked her why is the clown not smiling, and if she was going to make the clown's mouth bigger to hopefully become a huge smile.. she took the tiny red wooden dots and suggested that they are TEARS.... the clown is crying....

Tsumugi & I decided to take a walk in the park after a lavish spread of lunch... she insisted of trying out singaporean food... we lashed out on Hainanese chicken rice, laksa, carrot cake, ice kachang, teh tarik, etc...
whilst in the park.. i took countless pictures of swans, birds, and dogs... and of course flowers... but nearer the end of the adventure.. we decided to hunt for the statue of Peter Pan...

Maddie (my ex flatmate) dropped by london for a visit in mid may, and off we went to Bicester Village Outlet shopping... rented a car and off we went on our road trip round and about....
still around london... and came across this... and had to snap it for my bro:

before we started our shopping, we had to fill our tums tums... with delicious Carluccios pasta funghi and lasagne...
on our way back to london...a huge statue of a jack russell...
and towards the busy city before the sun set...

went for a dinner party at Rubens Hotel, in Victoria...It was an event where many other ballet lovers and ballet dancers would attend.. in particular the royal ballet... i was on the same table as Laura Morera. She was absolutely warmth, witty and have an incredible sense of humor. I wish there was more time to chat with her... She made me laugh so much... in fact, our table was the last to leave at about 11.30pm!
Of course, i tried to take pictures with some of the other dancers too, as this is my first and last dinner party with them *sob sob*

once again... another lovely relaxing sunday spent with Tsumugi... after an intense ballet class at the royal opera house... which was splendid (come to that later..) we headed for some really awesome Fish & Chips at Rock & Sole!!!! BEST COD in london.. i say.... batter was tasty and crispy, the meaty fish was soft and tender... oooooo.... then brought her to Birkenstock.... and we checked out some makeup at MAC... and headed for tea at PAUL. We decided to pamper ourselves with cakes and ice-cream, for we worked hard in ballet class... speaking of which, we did jetes and fouettes pirouettes, etc and for me.. it was an amazing feeling, to get the opportunity to fully utilise the vast studio space in the opera house... i can't imagine when else will i ever have such a privilege.....
anyway.. back to PAUL... the rustic frenchie ambience....

and our lovely treat... a sundae and Tsumugi's favourite strawberry fresh cream cake...and i had my favourite Macaroons...the waiter didn't give me pistachio flavoured ones.. which was a little disappointing....
